What fits in a 30-yard dumpster?

A 30-yard dumpster holds about 10 to 15 pickup-truck loads of debris. We recommend the 30-yard dumpster most for large construction sites and home additions. Weight still matters, so keep the 4-ton limit in mind as you load. Typical jobs that fit:

  • New construction or a home addition
  • A full-house gut or major renovation
  • A large roof tear-off (watch the 4-ton limit)
  • A big estate or property cleanout with furniture

These are typical examples. Bulky items take more room than you expect, so describe your job when you call.

How much weight can a 30-yard dumpster hold?

A 30-yard dumpster includes 4 tons, or 8,000 pounds. Bulky, light debris like lumber, drywall, packaging and furniture fills the space before the weight. Heavy debris like concrete, dirt, brick and sand is not allowed in the 30-yard dumpster.

Weight over 4 tons is $75 per ton, by the exact pound. A ticket of 4.25 tons means 0.25 ton over, or $18.75.

How dumpster weight is billed

Is the 30-yard the right size, or should I go smaller?

If you expect to fill the 30-yard dumpster past the top rim, book a swap ahead of time; each swap is billed as a new rental. If your job is small, the 20-yard dumpster saves space on your driveway.

30-yard dumpster questions

How tall are the walls on a 30-yard dumpster?

Six feet. That makes loading harder by hand, so many crews load from the open rear door first and throw lighter items over the top.

Is a 30-yard dumpster longer than a 20-yard?

No. Both are 22 feet long and 8 feet wide. The 30-yard dumpster has taller walls, so it needs the same driveway space.

How many pickup loads fit in a 30-yard dumpster?

About 10 to 15 pickup loads, assuming an 8-foot pickup bed loaded level holds 2 to 3 cubic yards.

Can you swap my 30-yard dumpster when it is full?

Yes. We pull the full dumpster and drop an empty one. Each swap is billed as a new flat-rate rental with its own 7 days and 4 tons.
