Which remodeling debris costs extra?
Most remodeling debris carries no extra fee: cabinets, counters, drywall, flooring, tile, fixtures and lumber all go in at the normal rate. Fridges and AC units with Freon are $50 extra each. Wet paint, solvents and batteries are not allowed in the dumpster at all.
Does my remodel need an asbestos or lead check?
It can. Older homes may contain asbestos in flooring, ceilings or insulation, and federal rules require an inspection before some renovations. Homes built before 1978 may have lead paint, and paid renovators must follow lead-safe practices. Confirm with your contractor before demolition.
The rules: EPA asbestos NESHAP, 40 CFR 61.145, and the EPA Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule. This is general information, not legal advice.

What size dumpster do I need for a kitchen remodel?
Most kitchen remodels fit a 20-yard dumpster, which includes 3 tons. If you're also gutting a dining room or a bathroom at the same time, consider the 30-yard.
What size dumpster do I need for a bathroom remodel?
A small bathroom remodel usually fits a 10-yard dumpster with 2 tons included. Two bathrooms or a large primary bath usually fit a 15-yard.
How long should I rent a dumpster for a remodel?
Every rental includes 7 days. If demolition and cleanup run longer, each extra day is $25, so you only pay for the days you use.
Can I throw out an old fridge from my kitchen remodel?
Yes, for $50 extra. Fridges and other appliances with Freon need the refrigerant recovered before disposal, so they're billed per unit.
Is drywall heavy in a dumpster?
Drywall is heavier than it looks, especially if it gets wet. Keep the dumpster covered before rain to avoid paying for water weight.
